B2P – PreTrip – Vaccines, Pull Planning, and Accomodations

Vaccines, Vaccines, Vaccines!!

As a precautional measure members of our team engaged medical professionals and the advice available on the CDC website to determine what travel vaccinations would be required/recommended.

the following was recommended and/or required

  • Measles-mumps-rubella ( MMR)
  • Hepatitis A
  • Hepatitis B
  • Malaria Pills
  • Typhoid
  • Yellow Fever
  • Cholera
  • Meningitis
  • Rabies
  • Tetanus
  • Polio
  • Flu

I’ve taken a particular interest in Malaria. According to the World Health Organization, Uganda has the highest incidence rate of malaria in the world, with 478 people out of 1000 population being afflicted per year. Malaria accounted for 19,869 deaths in 2014, that accounts for over 6% of all deaths in the country! With these numbers we obviously want to take additional precautions and we are going to be sure to utilize bug sprays with DEET, mosquito nets on beds, and permethrin spray on clothing.

Pull Planning Session

On January 6th members of McMillen Jacobs made it out to Traylor’s Long Beach office to participate in a Pull Planning session for Sanzara Bridge. Patrick Shuler, Traylor Lean Manager, led the collaborative effort of planning all components of the bridge in detail. The exercise was very enlightening and provided our Construction Lead, Jeremy Drislane, the needed information to draft an accurate Construction Plan Document. This was also our first opportunity to meet members of each team in person. I now know we have got the A Team !!
