Blue Plains Tunnel Wins ENR Award

Our Blue Plains Tunnel project is the recipient of the ENR 2016 Best Project award for the Mid-Atlantic Region for Water/Environment. Eight industry judges evaluated a large number of projects according to overcoming challenges, contribution to the industry and community, safety, and quality.

Winners were profiled in depth in the Oct. 24th issue of ENR MidAtlantic and at an awards presentation on Nov. 1st in Baltimore, MD.

The project involved designing and building a 24,000-foot-long, 26-foot-diameter CSO tunnel constructed in soft ground under and adjacent to the Potomac and Anacostia Rivers in Washington, DC. Now complete, the Blue Plains Tunnel is the first in a network of new tunnels reducing combined sewer overflows into the District’s waterways. Click here for more information about the project.
