Two football-field-sized precast hollow-core concrete dam segments on (89) drilled shafts 78" diameter, 40-foot long rock-socketed. The new dam will stand 82 feet high, about half under water. Construction of 1 200' navigational Lock #53 Ohio River Mound City. Illinois. Cellular sheet pile cofferdams, subgrade dewatering and "bathtub" dewatering. Excavation of 6,240 foot long x 800 foot wide upper approach to the navigable pass, to grade the lock chamber (1,200' x 110').

tbi6117 McALPINE DAM, Ohio River, Louisville, Kentucky. New McAlpine Dam consisted of cellular sheet pile cofferdams at two sites. Work included 76,000 cubic yards of concrete, 900,000 tons of reinforcing for pier and sill construction. US Corps of Engineers

Upstream approach to McAlpine Lock was widened and deepened to facilitate barge movement through the area. Majority of excavation involved removal of rock by drill and blast methods.
