Marine Outfall Contract
It will protect public health, the environment, and the economy by providing enough sewage treatment capacity to serve the growing population of the central Puget Sound region over the next several decades. Brightwater will serve people in north King and south Snohomish counties. About 70% of the wastewater treated at Brightwater will come from Snohomish County. Wastewater from this area is now treated at South Plant in Renton or at West Point in Seattle.
In addition to the treatment plant, which will treat 36 million gallons of wastewater a day, the Brightwater system will also include a 13-mile conveyance pipeline, a pump station in Bothell, and a 600-ft deep outfall in Puget Sound, a mile off Point Wells. Plans have been approved to include reclaimed water distribution pipelines in the same tunnels being built for Brightwater.
Excavation of the IPS shaft in the wet was completed and the tremie plugs completed. The top and middle struts and respective demolition were completed prior to pouring the tremie plugs. The shaft is currently being dewatered just below the lower strut elecvation to complete the demolition off a barge for the lower strut. After the demolition is complete, the shaft will be dewatered and the lining of the IPS west lobe started. All three caissons, NCC MH No. 1, NCC Pit No. 1, and the drop structure are complete. Approximately 1,100 ft of tunnel has been mined.
