Construction began October 2003 for two each 8,592 lf x 74 ft wide high level bridges on IH-45 on Galveston Bay over the Intracoastal Waterway, along with 3,950 lf of roadway approaches in Galveston County, Texas. Demolition of the existing bridge is included in the work scope.

 


Through April 2007:

Main Span Piers (Piers 36, 37, 38, and 39)

  • Pier Table complete at Pier 37 and Pier 38
  • Form Traveler erected on Pier 38
  • Footings, Columns, and Crashwall complete at Pier 39
  • Footing complete at Pier 36
Approach Spans
  • Footings complete at piers 40, 41, and 42
  • Columns complete at Piers 40, 58-62
  • Caps complete at Piers 59-62
  • Abutment #63 is complete
  • Monument & OH sign footings complete on South End
  • All 60" drilled shafts are complete south of channel
  • 78" drilled shafts complete from piers 56-62
Roadwork
  • All the piling and load transfer platform is complete on South End
  • Piling being installed on North End
  • Hubco is starting work on South End

Demolition

  • All demolition is complete south of the channel
  • SB Bridge retrofit drilled shafts are 50% complete north of channel
  • NB Bridge caissons are removed to Pier 35

Currently 40 days ahead of overall job completion milestone.
