IH-45 Galveston Causeway (tbi0302)

Construction began October 2003 for two each 8,592 lf x 74 ft wide high level bridges on IH-45 on Galveston Bay over the Intracoastal Waterway, along with 3,950 lf of roadway approaches in Galveston County, Texas. Demolition of the existing bridge is included in the work scope.

 


Through December 2009:

 

Northbound Bridge was opened to traffic on 7/1/06, more than 60 days ahead of milestone date, earning Traylor maximum allowed bonus by TXDOT.

Bridge structure survived relatively undamaged from a direct hit and storm surge from Hurricane Ike on 9/13/08. 

Southbound Bridge was opened to traffic on 11/5/08, 23 days ahead of the milestone date.

Final contract day was 3/9/09.

Conditional Acceptance was on 5/26/09.

Landscape Maintenance is ongoing and will continue for the next two years.

Change Order work - Fender System Pile Stub removal adjacent to the channel in ongoing.
