Cape Girardeau Bridge ( tbi0206, tbi0001) Cape Girardeau, Missouri Cable-stayed bridge over the Mississippi River connecting Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and East Cape Girardeau, Illinois. The 86'-4" wide bridge has a main span of 1,150' and two side spans at 468' each. Bridge substructure work included two dredged caissons and two 360' tall main pylons.
A 100' tall pier was also constructed on the east end of the bridge, along with a traditional abutment at the west end of the bridge. TBI poured approximately 50,000 cubic yards of concrete, placed over 3,200 tons of rebar, installed 128 stay cables, 4,100 tons of structural steel, and 12,800 tons of post-tensioned precast concrete deck panels. A 3" thick silica fume concrete wearing surface was installed on top of the precast deck panels, along with concrete barrier walls and steel railings. Notice to proceed was given on June 1, 2000, and the bridge was completed and open to traffic on December 13, 2003.
1700 lf approach bridge to the adjacent cable stayed bridge. The bridge is a structural steel girder with ten 170' long spans. The contract was to construct an 86'-4" wide bridge deck consisting of 4" thick precast deck panels with 5-1/2" thick poured in place concrete. The bridge was completed and open to traffic on December 13, 2003.
