Queens Bored Tunnels and Structures (tbi0906)
The joint venture team comprised of Granite/Traylor/Frontier-Kemper was awarded this contract by MTA Capital Construction (MTACC) to build the Queens Bored Tunnels and Structures for Long Island Rail Road's East Side Access project in New York. 

This project is the last major link in the tunnels from Queens to Grand Central Terminal in Manhattan.  The scope of work includes the excavation and the precast concrete lining of four bored tunnels beneath an active rail storage yard.  Totaling over 10,000 lf in length and approximately 22 ft in diameter, the tunnels will be excavated utilizing two tunnel boring machines.  Work on the project began fall 2009 and is estimated to take 42 months to complete.

The June 1, 2010 New York Construction magazine is featuring the Top 25 Tri-State Construction Starts of 2009.  One of the jobs included is the East Side Access - Queens Bored Tunnel project.
