Biloxi, MS

Construction began in June of 2006 to replace the 1.6-mile US 90 Bridge across Biloxi Bay after it was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina on August 29, 2005.  This project consisted of the design and construction of a new high-rise, six lane bridge, on a nearly parallel alignment with a Shared-Use Path (bicycle/pedestrian) new six lane bridge(s) over CSX Transportation Railroad. Associated roadway items include, lighting, removal of portions of existing pavement, and removal of the existing bridges and debris.
American Transportation Award  - August 2008 regional winner for "Innovative Management - from the American Association of State Highway & Transportation Officials (AASHTO), AAA, and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

Project Complete:
Concrete Pile:  1,219

Footings:  144

Columns:  288

Decks:  over 1,000,000 sf

This fast paced bridge replacement was designed to be a minimum of 28 feet above the water to stand above any anticipated storm surge.  The navigation channel is spanned by a 250 ft. haunch girder design that provides 95 ft. of clearance.  This allows the tallest vessels to navigate under the bridge while traffic flows are unimpeded.  The finished bridge features 3 lanes of traffic in each direction with shoulders and a 12 ft. wide Shared Use Path for bicycles and pedestrians.

Construction Method: Pile Bents 24" and 30"; CIP footings, columns, and caps; with 54, 72, and 78 bulb tees; plus a 78 inch haunch girder span at 290'; with CIP deck and Texas type barrier rail
