IHNC - Inner Harbor Navigation Canal (tbi0901 and 1002)
New Orleans, LA
Traylor-Massman-Weeks, LLC, as a subcontractor to Shaw Environmental & Infrastructure, was awarded the floodwall portion (0901) to a line of defense that is intended to provide improved hurricane protection for New Orleans, and specifically for the Inner Harbor Navigation Canal, from surges and waves at the 100-year level that may enter the canal from Lake Borgne. Construction includes North and South Floodwalls, Station 14+58.83 to Station 48+91.12 (South Wall) and Station 51+08.89 to Station 91+67.67 (North Wall). Dual headings were required to accommodate the accelerated 18 month schedule. The project also includes a temporary bypass gate, two navigable gate structures, and tie in walls to the existing levees.
In a second awarded subcontract (1002), TMW will be perform 36" Diameter Steel Pipe Pile Driving for the GIWW Sector Gate.
(0901) The Floodwall is being constructed from the Mississippi River Gulf Outlet (MRGO) to the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway (GIWW), a length of approximately 7,500 lineal feet. The floodwall is composed of driven 144 ft long, 66" concrete cylinder pile, filled with concrete to EL. -88 and spaced 6" apart to an elevation of approximately 14 MSL. The space between the cylinder pile will be closed with 18" concrete pile and filled with concrete. Battered 36" diameter steel pipe measuring 300 ft long will be installed on the inland side of the wall to support lateral loads applied to the wall. A precast concrete cap will be placed on the pile and post-tensioned in place. Sections of the cap between the precast will be cast-in-place concrete. the final elevation of the wall with pile, concrete cap, and parapet wall will be approximately Elevation 26 MSL. Construction of the wall is schedule from February 2009 through July 2010 with the concrete cylinder pile and 18" closure piles driven by the end of September 2009 to provide for the advance measures of hurricane protection for the 2009 hurricane season.

Cannelton Hydroelectric Cofferdam(tbi0902)

This project is located on the south side of the Ohio River adjacent to Cannelton Locks and Dam, about 25 miles northeast of Owensboro, KY. The existing USACE Cannelton Locks and Dam are located at Ohio River Mile 720.7. Kiewit/Traylor Constructors (KTC) has been contracted by AMP Ohio to construct the cofferdam and perform the powerhouse excavation. The cofferdam construction and excavation are being performed to allow for the construction of an 82MW hydro-electric power plant.
