Huey P. Long Bridge Approaches and Bridge Deck Widening, Jefferson, LA
The Huey P. Long Bridge Widening is a four-phase project vital to the recovery of Greater New Orleans.
Market: Transportation
Service: Bridge Structures
Project Value: $440 million
Start Date: 2008
Completion Date: 2013
This phase of the project entailed the replacement of the east and west approach structures and construction of a three-lane deck, widening both sides of the existing bridge.
The westbound and eastbound approach work includes roadway, roadway structures, concrete slab span, precast, prestressed concrete girder and steel plate girder bridges, bridge deck, and related work. The work also includes installation of structural steel stringers and a cast-in-place deck onto the newly widened truss superstructure.
Major contract modifications included a change in bolsters and alternate barrier using newer design for the mainline bridge; defective BT-78 girders; rotator method credit claim; and additional traffic maintenance aggregate.
